Pro-Flo Plumbing & Drain Cleaning

Sewer Ejector Pump in Danville, VA

A sewer ejector pump moves wastewater from plumbing fixtures located below the level of the main sewer or septic connection. It is commonly needed for basement bathrooms, laundry rooms, utility sinks, and other lower-level fixtures that cannot drain effectively through gravity alone. Wastewater enters a sealed basin, and a float activates the pump when the liquid reaches a set level. The pump then pushes the waste upward into the building’s main drainage system. Pro-Flo Plumbing provides sewer ejector pump installation, maintenance, and repair in Danville for residential and commercial properties.

Standard Ejector and Grinder Pumps

Not every sewer ejector pump includes macerating or grinding capabilities. Standard ejector pumps use an impeller to move wastewater and solids through a relatively short discharge line into a gravity-fed sewer or septic system.

Grinder pumps cut waste into a fine slurry before moving it. They may be needed when wastewater must travel a long distance, overcome substantial vertical lift, pass through smaller piping, or enter a pressurized sewer main. A grinder is not automatically a better upgrade. The correct choice depends on the system design, required flow, discharge distance, and total lift.

Common Pump Problems

Frequent issues include stuck float switches, clogged impellers, failed check valves, obstructed venting, electrical problems, worn seals, and motors that no longer start reliably. A failing pump may create sewage odors, unusual noises, frequent cycling, slow lower-level drains, or an alarm from the basin.

Wipes, hygiene products, grease, and other unsuitable materials can jam either type of pump. Grinder cutters may also become dull or damaged over time, particularly when abrasive or stringy materials enter the system.

Williams and his guys did an awesome job on my bathroom renovation. Recommend 100%
My brother’s apartment was flooding from a very old and non maintenance water heater. The property manager was not capable of getting a plumber there for an emergency that happened around midnight. Marybeth at Pro-Flo Plumbing was able get someone out there in a timely fashion. I’m grateful that they were able to remove the most of water shut off the water.

Pro Flo plumbing fixed two issues in our home that we had been putting off. The price was fair, our plumbers were outstanding and both jobs were done right.
Pro Flo also has now helped the nonprofit animal shelter my wife and I work with (APS Caswell) twice and did a great job for the shelter as well. When you go with Pro Flow, you can count on knowledgeable professionals explaining everything thoroughly, and getting the job done right for a reasonable price. I know my family are Pro Flo customers for life.

Paid this company for nothing! Told them the issue (disconnected pipe and clogged) the man claimed he climbed under the house and seen no issue then charged me a service fee but he didn’t do anything and I had to call another company out and they had the problem fixed within an hour and a new pipe connected.

Installation From Basin to Discharge

Installation begins by calculating the wastewater demand, vertical lift, discharge distance, and pipe size. A sealed basin is positioned below the fixtures it serves. The pump, inlet, vent, discharge line, check valve, shutoff valve, electrical connection, and optional high-water alarm are then installed.

The basin must be properly sealed and vented to prevent sewer gases from entering the building. Once connected, the system is filled and tested to confirm that the float activates correctly, the discharge line holds pressure, and the pump shuts off at the proper level. Manufacturer installation instructions also require correct sizing and system configuration for dependable operation.
