Pro-Flo Plumbing & Drain Cleaning

Backflow Preventer Repair & Testing in Danville, VA

A backflow preventer helps keep contaminated water from reversing direction and entering a clean drinking-water supply. Changes in water pressure can potentially pull irrigation water, chemicals, sewage, or other contaminants backward through a cross-connection. Pro-Flo Plumbing provides backflow preventer testing, repair, and replacement in Danville, VA, for commercial properties, irrigation systems, fire-protection connections, multifamily buildings, and other systems where approved backflow protection is required. Because a failing assembly may not produce obvious symptoms, scheduled testing is an important part of protecting the property and the public water system.

Protection for the Drinking-Water Supply

Under normal conditions, water travels from the public main into a building. Backpressure or backsiphonage can reverse that flow. This may happen because of a water-main break, sudden pressure loss, pump operation, or pressure created by equipment inside the property.

A properly selected backflow preventer acts as a barrier between the potable water supply and potential contamination sources.

Danville and Virginia Requirements

Backflow protection is not required in exactly the same form for every property. The appropriate device depends on the type of cross-connection and the level of potential hazard.

Virginia regulations require approved backflow protection where certain cross-connections exist. Commercial plumbing, irrigation, fire-sprinkler systems, food-service equipment, and other applications may require a testable assembly. Local officials or the water provider may also require installation, testing records, permits, or inspections.

Testing and Replacement Schedules

Many testable backflow assemblies must be tested when first installed, after repairs or relocation, and at least once each year. Testing should be completed by a properly certified backflow prevention device worker.

A preventer does not always need replacement simply because it fails a test. Worn seals, springs, check valves, and internal components may be repairable. Replacement may be recommended when the assembly is heavily corroded, cracked by freezing, repeatedly fails testing, or no longer has available repair parts.

Signs of Backflow Preventer Failure

Visible leaking, continuous discharge from a relief valve, reduced water pressure, unusual noises, and corrosion around the assembly may indicate a problem. Discolored water, changes in taste or odor, and unexplained pressure fluctuations also deserve attention.

However, some failures remain hidden until the assembly is professionally tested. Passing an annual test provides greater confidence that the internal checks are operating correctly.

My brother’s apartment was flooding from a very old and non maintenance water heater. The property manager was not capable of getting a plumber there for an emergency that happened around midnight. Marybeth at Pro-Flo Plumbing was able get someone out there in a timely fashion. I’m grateful that they were able to remove the most of water shut off the water.

Pro Flo plumbing fixed two issues in our home that we had been putting off. The price was fair, our plumbers were outstanding and both jobs were done right.
Pro Flo also has now helped the nonprofit animal shelter my wife and I work with (APS Caswell) twice and did a great job for the shelter as well. When you go with Pro Flow, you can count on knowledgeable professionals explaining everything thoroughly, and getting the job done right for a reasonable price. I know my family are Pro Flo customers for life.

Paid this company for nothing! Told them the issue (disconnected pipe and clogged) the man claimed he climbed under the house and seen no issue then charged me a service fee but he didn’t do anything and I had to call another company out and they had the problem fixed within an hour and a new pipe connected.
